Fugro EarthData Releases Free 3D Geodata Viewer |
In November, Fugro EarthData made initial release of its new FugroViewer software. Now a standard deliverable for any elevation-related project, the free 3D geodata viewer enhances the ability to visualize lidar and other terrain datasets without the need for expensive third-party software.
FugroViewer includes a full list of features that make it possible to:
Display ASPRS lidar data exchange format standard files (LAS)
Import and display ASCII and 32-bit GeoTIFF formats
Display lidar data in orthographic, 3D perspective view, and cross-section/profile views
Display color, grayscale, and intensity shaded TINs
Perform point cloud display by classification, return number, elevation, intensity, or source ID
Generate contour overlays
Collect and edit point of interest (POI) markers
Draw area of interest (AOI) polygons and save as shapefiles
Display ancillary data including georeferenced TIFF background imagery and shapefile overlays
While the initial release of FugroViewer has been limited to current customers, a larger distribution is anticipated for early 2009.

Teaming with Fugro GEOID to Map Paradise |
As part of a team led by sister company Fugro GEOID (France), Fugro EarthData will participate on a coastal mapping project in St. Lucia. The effort requires classification of coastal resources for over half the tropical island in support of coastal zone management.
The team will utilize a Leica ADS40-SH52 sensor to collect four-band multispectral imagery. Image classification will be achieved using semi-automated techniques involving feature extraction software and classification and regression tree (CART) analysis. Data acquisition for the project begins in December and is scheduled for completion in July 2009.
